REVAMPED CONSUMIDOR.GOV OFFERS CONSUMER RESOURCES IN SPANISH

When you need good advice for raising the kids, you know you can turn to family. But when you need expert advice on how to save money or handle a problem with something you’ve bought, where can you turn? Just go to Consumidor.gov, the U.S. government’s website for free consumer resources in Spanish.

Consumidor.gov, which is maintained by the U.S. Federal Citizen Information Center, now has even more helpful tips, information, and resources for anyone trying to deal with a consumer problem. It focuses on the things you deal with every day, including your bank account or your health, and there’s also advice on immigration and scams such as fake ID cards and affinity fraud. The website is full of tips you can follow to avoid problems, save money, or get a better deal.

If something goes wrong with a purchase, Consumidor.gov tells you how to complain to a company so you can get the problem fixed. You can download a sample letter or e-mail in Spanish that has all the right language—you just need to follow the directions and send it. And there’s even a directory of contact information for state and Federal government agencies, organizations, and companies so you know where to send your complaint.

You can also turn to the website for guidance on special topics, such as buying a house, financing college, or paying your Federal taxes. Each topic (22 in all) has its own page, so it’s easy to find just the information you need. And because the website is run by the Federal government, it’s not trying to sell you anything or push any products. All the advice is free, and it’s been reviewed by experts who have your best interests at heart. You can use the straightforward information you find on Consumidor.gov to make informed decisions on your own—and who can say that about advice from Aunt Maria?

All the helpful information from the website is also available in book form. While you’re on Consumidor.gov, order one or more copies of the companion publication, the Guía del Consumidor. It’s a great way to help family and friends who don’t have Internet access.

It’s hard to find advice you can trust, especially when it comes to your money. But with Consumidor.gov, there’s no need to worry. It’s the only website you need for free consumer resources in Spanish.
