We get lots and lots of questions...

Where can I buy topographic maps?
At interpretive association stores co-located with most USGS Information Services offices, from a local map dealer, or by mail through USGS Product Sales in Denver, CO. Maps can also be ordered online through the USGS Store.

How much do maps cost?
Most maps are either $6.00 or $7.00 per sheet. A $5.00 handling charge is applied to all orders sent by mail. Call us at 1-888-ASK-USGS or visit our Pricing Information Pages for more information.

Can anyone just drop in at USGS Information Services locations?
YES. We are open to the public. Call your nearest Information Services office to check their hours.

Can you send me map ordering information?
YES. Just ask and be specific. Depending on where you live, you may want to stop in and pick up the map in person or you may wish to request an index and ordering information by phone at 1-888-ASK-USGS.

Do you have map data in digital form?
YES. Visit our Digital Geospatial Data Page or call for our information package on digital cartographic data.

How do I get aerial photographs of where I live?
Visit our How to Obtain Aerial Photographs Fact Sheet which includes a checklist of information needed for Information Services staff to search our data bases for available photographs.

Photographic reproduction of images from the USGS film archives ceased on September 3, 2004. However, aerial photographs can be ordered in either of two digital formats through EarthExplorer.

For those who specifically need paper or film products, there is a list of USGS Business Partners who provide aerial photographic research and image printing services.

Are there geologic maps or publications for where I live?
Probably. Visit our Geologic Information pages or we will take a look for you.

Do you have stream gauging data available for a particular stream?
We have Real-Time Water Data online for many streams. For your specific stream, we would refer you to the Water Resources Division of USGS.

Do you have digital data for Australia?
No. But by consulting our informational data bases we would refer you to an organization that does.
