ALL storage tanks (aboveground and underground) are subject to rules all regulations through the Division of Oil and Public Safety
Oversees routine storage tank permitting for installation, operations and closure of tanks containing "regulated" (EPA) substances.
$150 application fee for underground tanks. Must submit plot plan on new facility. $35/year per tank registration fee.

An application must be submitted to and approved by the State Inspector of Oils, before beginning construction on any new petroleum Aboveground Stortage Tank (AST) system at a particular facility; or before beginning construction on any existing petroleum AST system at a facility that is being upgraded. Fee of $35 per tank.

On site inspections
Exceptions include: Farm or residential tanks with less than 1100 gal. for non-commercial use. Tanks used for heating oil to be consumed on the premises. Septic tanks.
Regulations govern storage tank leak detection and release reporting.

Petroleum Storage Tank Regulations require permanent closure of any underground storage tank that has been out of service for more than 12 months. The Division of Oil and Public Safety must be notified at least 10 days before the closure date.

An application must be submitted for LPG installations, including a plot plan. All tanks and fittings must be in compliance with National Fire Protection Association code.
