Location: Miami, Florida

Project Number: 6631-22000-003-07
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Jan 28, 2005
End Date: Oct 31, 2007

Objective:
Identification of C. cactorum female-produced sex pheromone; formulation of sex pheromone; development and use of bioassays to confirm behavioral activity of identified pheromone; and deployment of traps to confirm attraction in the field.

Approach:
Volatile chemicals from female moths plus cactus, cactus alone, and female moths alone will be trapped using adsorption onto SPME fibers and collection of Super Q-packed volatile traps. Compounds will be placed in traps and tested in the field using Pherocon 1C wing traps. Analysis of controlled release of attractant will be obtained.
