Clinical Laboratories in Colorado are registered by the State Certification Program under the federal regulation known as the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). The regulation requires certification of all sites conducting any clinical test including those considered simple and without regard for payment to comply.

Medicare and Medicaid laboratory reimbursements are denied when appropriate certificates do not exist.
Laboratories that conduct complex testing are inspected every two years.
Details on the federal CLIA regulations are available on the U.S. FDA's web site.
