EMISSIONS TESTING FACILITIES IN THE DENVER METRO AREA MAY NOT DO VEHICLE EMISSIONS-RELATED REPAIRS.
Test of vehicles 1982 and newer in the Denver Metro area may only be done by Envirotest Inc., which has been granted an exclusive contract for administration of the Denver Metro testing program.

If doing emission testing in the Denver Metro area: Facilities may ONLY test 1981 and older vehicles. Testing must be done using the BAR 90 analyzer system.
If doing emission testing for vehicles in El Paso, Weld, Larimer, or Pitkin Counties: Testing must be conducted on the BAR 90 analyzer system. Facilities can charge up to $15 per emissions test.
All EMISSION TESTING FACILITIES must contact the Department of Revenue, Emissions Section, for all facility licensing.

Emissions Mechanics and Inspectors must be licensed by the Division. Applicants must be employed by a licensed station or facility. Initial license fee if $15, and annual renewal is $10.

The state Air Pollution Control Division certifies the program, including testing procedures and equipment.
Owners and operators of larger diesel fleets take part in a Diesel Fleet Self-Certification Program. The program requires fleet owners and operators to self-inspect and certify their vehicles annually to maintain compliance with state smoke opacity standards.
Emissions Technical Centers answer questions from automobile technicians and the general public regarding emissions repairs and the vehicle inspection programs. Staff of the Emissions Technical Centers provide training and certification for repair technicians and emissions inspectors, and conduct field inspections in support of the diesel emissions programs and the oxygenated gasoline program.
