Searching for the Elusive Pygmy Hippo

April Conway went to Africa to study pygmy hippos. But she’s found more than just the rare, smaller cousin of the hippopotamus – the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources student has captured photographs of a wide variety of species, ranging from common chimpanzees to endangered birds like white-breasted guinea fowls.

Boy Scout makes Oconee Forest trail handicapped accessible

The half-mile Tranquility Trail at the Warnell School's Oconee Forest Park is about to be handicapped accessible, all thanks to a Boy Scout aiming for Eagle ranking.

Warnell survey shows public strongly supports black bear conservation

A Warnell survey of four Middle Georgia counties will help the Georgia Department of Natural Resources determine a management strategy for black bears. Public perception in that part of the state, the Warnell survey shows, indicates strong support for conservation efforts.

Outreach professor gets USDA grant to develop online forestry bioenergy library

A Warnell School outreach and timber harvesting professor has received an $85,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to develop an online library on forestry-related bioenergy for the University of Georgia eXtension Web site.

Warnell secures record high in research funding

A recent analysis shows that the Warnell School secured an all-time high in research funding last fiscal year -- more than $7.5 million in external money used to support research and graduate education. Warnell, which is the second-smallest school on campus, secured more outside research funding than all but four other colleges at UGA, according to a recent report by the Office of the Vice President for Research.
