From drawing board to field test, NREL's wind energy research staff and facilities at the National Wind Technology Center (NWTC), located south of Boulder Colorado, can provide the wind industry with the expertise, technical support, and equipment it needs to develop successful advanced wind energy systems. NREL's past wind energy research efforts led to the development of General Electric's 1.5 megawatt (MW) machine of which more than 2,800 units are installed worldwide. And as a result of NREL's research and accelerated testing capabilities, Clipper Windpower produced a prototype of its innovative, four-generator turbine in record time.
