When Frederick Warnbold signed in as the first resident of the Home on September 21, 1895, a tradition in caring was born. The veteran joined others who shared a common cause that bound them together; their commitment to our Nation!
Commitment
The Veterans’ Home of Wyoming’s (VHW) commitment is providing the best quality domiciliary care for the individual. Our entire philosophy is based on maximizing the quality of life for each resident.
VHW is in the forefront of caring for those who served our Nation. The Veterans’ Home is meeting the challenges of an ever increasing number of veterans and their dependents.

Quality of life advantages include: a supportive community, exercise groups and equipment, group activities and outings, music groups, games, fishing, and more…The choices are yours!
Life at VHW
Our one hundred and seventeen bed facility provides the resident with more than just room and board – it provides the resident with a community of caring people. There are 2-room suites for married couples and private rooms for single residents.
Some residents have their own cars. If you do not have your own car there is plenty of transportation to and from VHW to get you where you need to go. All residents are free to come and go as they please.
The Buffalo community warmly supports VHW and its residents. Veterans’ organizations, their respective auxiliaries and fraternal organizations provide volunteer services and financial support.
Churches also support VHW residents. There are many churches in the Buffalo area whose congregations assist by providing transportation, activities, and spiritual needs for the residents.
Eligibility & Admissions Criteria
A VHW resident must be:
*An honorably discharged veteran.
*A resident of Wyoming.
*A dependant of a veteran.
*A qualified non-veteran, as space allows.
The Veterans’ Home of Wyoming is an assisted living facility founded to meet the needs of veterans and their spouses who have served in the armed forces of the United States.
A resident must be able to maintain their activities of daily living and cannot be gainfully employed. All prospective residents are assessed during a two-day trial, which includes a personal interview and an application review with staff members.
The VHW’s open admissions policy does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, creed, age, disability, or national origin.

Monthly Fees for Residents
Residents’ maintenance fees are based on an individual’s ability to pay. Services rendered for the monthly maintenance fee include but are not limited to a furnished private room, meals, laundry services, nursing services, social services, activities, and transportation on weekdays.
The Veterans’ Home of Wyoming is located at the base of the beautiful Big Horn Mountains three miles west of Buffalo on U.S. Highway 16, just 40 miles south of Sheridan, Wyoming.
