Calvin Teel joined the Office on Women's Health (OWH) in 2001, and is now a Public Health Advisor and Project Officer for the National Bone Health Campaign. Concurrently, he is also serving as the Project Officer on the following contracts:

  • An evaluation of the National Rural Frontier Women's Health Coordinating Centers (RFCC) program
  • The logistical support contractor for OWH

In March 2007, Mr. Teel assumed the role of Project Officer for the NBHC. He manages this project from research and material development to website maintenance. Within this capacity, he oversees the day-to-day activities of this multi-year national education campaign to promote optimal bone health in girls 9 - 12 years old, and potentially reduce their risk of osteoporosis later in life. His ultimate role is to ensure that the campaign activities will educate and encourage girls to establish lifelong healthy habits, especially increased calcium consumption and weight-bearing physical activity to build and maintain strong bones.

Mr. Teel has over 8 years of experience in both health promotion and project management, both within HHS as well as in the private sector. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Virginia Tech. He received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Health and Nutrition and a Master's of Science degree in Health Education and Promotion.

Mr. Teel brings a male's perspective to the OWH programs. During his brief tenure with the OWH he has contributed to the development of the National Community Centers of Excellence in Women's Health (CCOE), several conferences addressing issues of importance to women and their families, and to the production of several important publications.

Current as of January 2008
