America's Role in South Asia
Dr. C. Raja Mohan chaired the South Asia regional task force for the Foundation's America's Role in Asia (ARA) project and spoke at the U.S. launch. ARA presents specific foreign policy recommendations for the incoming U.S. administration, such as urging the U.S. to "help Pakistan and Afghanistan resolve their long-standing border issues in a diplomatic and nuanced way." Read Professor Mohan's chapter, The U.S Role in South Asia. Amid rising extremist attacks in both Afghanistan and Pakistan, and continued instability on the border, Mohan cautioned: "The war in Afghanistan is a war of necessity for the U.S. and this is going to be a long war." Copies of the report were hand-delivered in August to foreign policy advisors to both the Obama and McCain campaigns. Read more on ARA recommendations for South Asia.
