Kam Wah Chung & Co. Museum
|
Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is developing this master plan in partnership with the City of John Day, the Friends of Kam Wah Chung and the community at large to provide a unified vision for this significant historic site. This master plan will provide OPRD and the community with a shared long-term vision for the property that we can work toward. Successful implementation of the master plan will result in the long-term preservation of the museum along with world-class visitor services that are at scale that is appropriate to the site and the surrounding neighborhood.
Balancing the restoration and preservation, operations, interpretation, and public access, while maintaining the historical integrity of the museum, will require the involvement from various stakeholders. This process provides a public forum for discussing important issues and identifying potential solutions. We will be convening an advisory committee to guide the process in concert with a series of public meetings in both John Day and in the Portland Metropolitan area throughout the process.
