Professional Job Experience

1998 - Present. Supervisory Fisheries Biologist, National Marine Fisheries Service, Alaska Fisheries Science Center, Seattle, WA. Leader of the Status of Stocks and Multispecies Assessment Program (SSMA) at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center. This program provides stock assessment and management advice for groundfish stocks in the Gulf of Alaska, Aleutian Islands and Bering Sea. Staff provide analysis of impacts of proposed fishery management actions as required under the National Environmental Policy Act, the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act and the Endangered Species Act. Members of this Program conduct a variety of research projects that are designed to improve the quality of stock assessments. Recent research projects include studies of: fisheries oceanography, multispecies modeling, identification of essential fish habitat, life history parameter estimation, reducing uncertainty in survey biomass estimates, applications of foraging theory to explain fleet dynamics and decadal scale climate variability. Field research programs are designed and implemented as required. Recently, program members have been called upon to introduce stock assessment models that explicitly incorporate predator prey interactions and simulation models to quantify uncertainty in stock assessment advice.

1995 - 1998. Supervisory Fisheries Biologist, National Marine Fisheries Service, Alaska Fisheries Science Center, Seattle, WA. Task leader responsible for providing stock assessments and management advice for groundfish in the Gulf of Alaska.

1982 - 1995. Fisheries Research Biologist, National Marine Fisheries Service, Alaska Fisheries Science Center, Seattle, WA. Conducted stock assessments and research on groundfish stocks in the North Pacific.

1982. Research Biologist. University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Conducted multivariate assemblage analysis of groundfish complexes in the Bering Sea.
