Susanne Pickering is the Women's Health Coordinator in Region IV for the Office on Women's Health, Office of Public Health and Science in the Department of Health and Human Services. This region covers the eight southeastern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Susanne has a Master of Public Health degree from Emory University and a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University- Medical College of Virginia. She is a Captain in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service.

Susanne contributes a broad perspective of health and public health to the Regional Office on Women's Health with over 20 years of government service in four agencies. She served with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention assisting states, territories and tribes in providing breast and cervical cancer prevention and control services for underserved and uninsured women. In addition, she facilitated collaborative working relationships between CDC, other federal agencies, academia, the private sector and the public on a number of other projects and initiatives. Partnerships were also an important aspect of her work with communities near hazardous waste sites while at the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. CAPT Pickering began her career with the U.S. Public Health Service providing direct occupational therapy services and research at the National Institutes for Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Later, she provided clinical management, education and services for underserved populations with chronic mental illness at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, DC while assigned to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Susanne also served on a WHO/CDC international team to Ghana working toward eradication of Polio and reduction of measles in 2003.
