YOUTH SERVICE DESCRIPTION
Youth Service
Youths at work
The Goal
The OPRD Youth Service Award is available to young men and women (ages 8-18) who complete 25 hours of pre-approved volunteer service work in Oregon State Parks.

The Purpose
To increase active participation of Oregon´s youth in Oregon State Parks while instilling and encouraging practical, tangible volunteer contribution and to recognize youth volunteers and their group leaders who complete a specified number of service hours.

Award Guidelines

  • Volunteers between the ages of 8 and 18 are eligible.
  • Participants need not belong to a youth organization to participate.
  • Adult leaders of youth groups may receive the award if their group participates in the program and the leader completes the required number of hours.
  • Participants will need to meet with the Park Manager to design service project(s). The Park Manager or a park staff member will supervise all assigned tasks to insure work is preformed according to standards.
  • Service hours will be tracked on an OPRD Service Award Score Card [download | Acrobat required] and all work hours will need to be initialed by the Park Manager/staff member to be valid.
  • Hours worked on several tasks may be combined to earn the award; however, hours used to earn other youth awards may not be counted towards the OPRD Youth Service Award
  • Up to 8 hours may be earned by participation with SOLV Beach or Riverside clean-up events, but must be completed at an Oregon State Park.

The Award
Once 25 hours of service have been earned, the volunteer or group leader will mail the completed scorecard(s) to the OPRD Salem HQ (OPRD, ATTN: Youth Service Award, 725 Summer St. NE, Suite C, Salem, OR 97301).
