The National Institute for Literacy (NIFL), through its 1999-2000 Literacy
Leader Fellowships, announced it will fund projects on the effect of
domestic violence on women's learning, the value of workplace literacy
programs, and adult learner contributions to literacy policy development.
The Fellows will work on their projects from October 1, 1999 through
September 2000; final reports will be made available after the grant period.

The winning proposals, selected from a pool of 46 applications, were
reviewed at three different levels. Selection criteria required the
projects to be national in scope and applicants to have five years of
experience directly relevant to the proposal topic. Criteria also rewarded
proposals that addressed learner leadership in the field and literacy
program accountability.
