Aerial spray team prepares to help Louisiana
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Three more C-130s and 40 more reservists from Air Force Reserve Command's 910th Airlift Wing flew to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Sept.18 to conduct aerial spray missions throughout Louisiana. Another C-130 and 10 reservists from the unit based at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, arrived the day before.

Aerial spray team deploys to Louisana
YOUNGSTOWN AIR RESERVE STATION, Ohio -- Ten reservists and an Air Force Reserve C-130 from here flew to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Sept. 17 to begin aerial spray missions throughout that state in the wake of Hurricane Ike.
Another three specially equipped C-130s will deploy to Barksdale AFB Sept. 18.

Management tool receives Air Force chief of staff award
WASHINGTON -- A new Management Internal Control Toolset designed to help commanders run their units more effectively earned an Air Force Best Practice award during the 2008 Chief of Staff Team Excellence Award ceremony.
Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, Air Force chief of staff, presented the award to the Air Force Reserve Command Inspector General's MICT team during a ceremony Sept. 16 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington.

General discusses role of Air Force Reserve at AFA conference
WASHINGTON -- Air Force Reserve Command's vice commander spoke to a gathering of service members and civilians Sept. 16 during a presentation at the 24th Annual Air Force Association Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition here.
Maj. Gen. Allan R. Poulin talked about the command's role in the war on terrorism and how AFRC is now the second largest of the nine Air Force major commands with about 67,500 members.

March ARB installs anti-terrorism barrier
MARCH AIR RESERVE BASE, Calif. -- Tucson police had no clue what Fidel Antonio Lopez-Sanchez was up to two years ago when he sped pass gate guards at Davis-Monthan AFB in his pickup truck at 6:45 a.m. He had cocaine in his pocket and a loaded .45-caliber revolver under his seat. The inside of his truck reeked of alcohol.

Former bomber unit re-activated for space duty
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The 310th Space Wing welcomed its newest unit Sept. 6 as the 380th Bombardment Squadron (Medium) unfurled its colors as the 380th Space Control Squadron at WestPac Restorations in Colorado Springs.
At the ceremony, retired Col. William Bower, a Doolittle Raider and the last commander of the 310th Bomb Group in World War II, passed the 380th colors to Col. Jeffrey Ansted, commander of Air Force Reserve Command's 310th SW.

KC-135 refuels F-22 with synthetic blend
WASHINGTON -- An Air Force Reserve aircrew from March Air Reserve Base, Calif., made history Aug. 28 by air refueling an F-22 Raptor with a 50/50 synthetic fuel blend, the same blend used to fuel its KC-135R.
Both aircraft used only the blended fuel mix during the 2.5-hour sortie, which included two refuelings.
