Annual Performance Measures
The Office of the Inspector General provides an oversight function on behalf of the director and deputy director of the Department of Corrections. The division comprises two units: Investigations and Rules/Hearings.
The Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating allegations of inmate, employee, and visitor misconduct; collects evidence of criminal behavior for referral to the State Police; investigates conspiracies to introduce contraband into the prisons; monitors inmate communications; searches for fugitives; and performs other functions as requested by the director.
The Rules/Hearings Unit prepares and distributes the agency rules and procedures throughout the department. This unit is the department's liaison with the Department of Justice and performs official archival duties for the department. Hearings officers assigned to the unit adjudicate inmate misconduct, holding them accountable for their behavior through a matrix of sanctions that may include the loss of privileges, fines and disciplinary segregation time.
