Question Taken at May 19, 2006 Daily Press Briefing : China and the G-8

Question: Have we heard of any proposal for China to join the G-8? What would be our position on such a proposal?

Answer: We are aware that various individuals and organizations have suggested expanding the G-8 to include China. The G8 is not considering expansion. We have an active engagement with China bilaterally and in appropriate multilateral fora and we are working to expand that productive cooperation.
