Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to Announce Human Rights Day Initiatives

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will announce several new initiatives advancing U.S. Government efforts on democracy and human rights, and responding to a global trend of government crackdowns on non-governmental organizations and human rights defenders, at a State Department commemoration of International Human Rights Week on Thursday, December 14, 2006, at 12:00 p.m. in the Treaty Room of the U.S. Department of State.

The remarks are open press coverage for writers and still photographers and pool press coverage for cameras.

Pick up time for cameras: 11:30 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance
Pick up time for writers and still photographers: 11:45 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance

Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license, passport).
