Notice to the Press Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC November 20, 2006 Under Secretary Burns to Brief on NATO Issues Prior to Riga SummitUnder Secretary of State for Political Affairs R. Nicholas Burns will brief on NATO issues on Tuesday, November 21, at 9:30 a.m. in the State Department Press Briefing Room. This briefing is ON-THE-RECORD and ON-CAMERA. Under Secretary Burns will review issues that the leaders of the 26 member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization will consider when they meet for NATO's Riga Summit November 28-29, 2006. The Riga Summit will highlight NATO's new capabilities and global roles, including in Afghanistan, where all the Allies are joined by 11 international partners in support of that nation's young democracy. Media representatives who plan to attend this briefing but do not have a State Department building pass must enter through the 23rd Street entrance of the State Department building by 9:15 a.m. Attendees must present one of the following press credentials: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport). |
