Science Ambassador Lecturer Biography

    Adolfo Correa, MD, MPH, PhD

    Dr. Adolfo Correa is a medical epidemiologist in the Division of Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities at the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, Georgia, where he serves as the leader of the Birth Defects Surveillance Team. Dr. Correa received a master of science in chemistry from the University of California, San Diego; an MD degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine; and a master of public health and a doctorate in epidemiology from The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland. He is trained in pediatrics and in general preventive medicine. From 1987 through 1997, he was a member of the faculty at The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, where he was associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology. His research has addressed the effects of indoor air pollutants on respiratory disorders in children and parental environmental and occupational factors on congenital heart defects, low birth weight, infertility, and spontaneous abortions. He has served on the Science Advisory Board for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and on the Advisory Committee for Former Prisoners of War, Department of Veterans Affairs. He is presently a member of the Interagency Coordinating Committee of the National Children’s Study.
