Judith Ortiz Cofer
Judith Ortiz Cofer, a native of Puerto Rico, is a poet, novelist and essayist whose writings include a novel and several collections of poetry and essays. Her work has appeared in The Georgia Review, The Kenyon Review and The Southern Review. She is the recipient of several awards including the PEN/Martha Albrand Special Citation in non-fiction, the Anisfield Wolf Book Award, and the first Pura Belpré Medal (1996). Her most recent book is The Meaning of Consuelo (Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 2003). She is the Franklin Professor of English at the University of Georgia in Athens.
