CHPS project activities during Q4 FY08
- The Northwest RFC (NWRFC) hosted a workshop in early August to discuss operational needs for an interactive forecasting GUI. Also. the OHD developers made their first delivery to Deltares of the initial set of modeling software migrated from NWSRFS to CHPS ... more details here.
- In September NOAA negotiated and awarded a multi-year sole source contract with Deltares for implementation of the CHPS infrastructure (i.e., Delft-FEWS), along with some additional software and non-software tasks. This effort complements the NWS's work on an adapter for HEC-RAS, OHD's migration of its modeling software from NWSRFS to FEWS, and various other tasks described in these web pages.
- The Northeast RFC (NERFC) hosted the CHPS Preparation Workshop #2 at the end of September ... more details here.
- OHD initiated the purchase of prototype hardware for the CAT RFCs ... more details here.
- The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) officially began work on the "HEC-RAS into CHPS" project; also the task order for RTi was awarded, enabling Deltares to begin their work on the HEC-RAS adapter ... more details here.
- On the Experimental Ensemble Forecasting System (XEFS), OHD kicked off the requirements gathering work for the Ensembles Product Generator (EPG) ... more details here.
- The NWS Employees Organization (NWSEO) named a representative for the CHPS project ... more details here.
NOAA’s National Weather Service (NWS) River Forecast Centers (RFCs) are key partners in the provision of water resource information. NOAA’s Community Hydrologic Prediction System (CHPS) will enable NOAA’s water research and development enterprise and operational service delivery infrastructure to be integrated and leveraged with other federal water agency activities, academia, and the private sector.
