Tornado Confirmed West of Menasha

A tornado touched down about four miles west-northwest of Menasha in Winnebago County late in the evening on July 19, causing a narrow but significant area of damage.  The hardest hit area was an apartment complex just northwest of Irish Road and West American Drive.  Four buildings were impacted, two with significant damage.

The tornado caused sporatic damage along a 1/2 mile long path.  The twister, which was witnessed by several people, was rated EF1, with winds estimated near 90 mph.

NWS Doppler radar indicated a line of thunderstorms moving east across the Fox Valley.  The tornado quickly formed north of the bowing section of the line, and lasted for only about a minute.  The images below were from 10:44 PM, about the time the tornado touched down.
