Advancing Corporate Social Investment in Azerbaijan

On March 5, 2008, representatives of eleven leading national and multi-national companies and organizations—including AMCHAM, AMFA, Ata Holding, Bank of Baku, Nar Mobile, PRP, Star GSM, StatoilHydro and Zygon Caspian Consulting—gathered at the headquarters of Garadagh Cement JSC in Baku’s Garadagh district, as part a study tour organized by the Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF), supported by the USAID-funded Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Initiative.

Balint Kato, Marketing, Sales and Logistic Director of Garadagh JSC and Rena Tahirova, the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, presented the Garadagh Cement CSR Program and fielded numerous questions from participants who were impressed by the scope of activities at Garadagh.

Following the presentation, study tour participants made a site visit to the Rehabilitation Center “Mushfiq” for disabled children, a key beneficiary of Garadagh Cement’s CSR program.

The CSI initiative will continue series of study tours to facilitate further development of a robust network of CSI professionals in Azerbaijan. The aim of the regular study tours is to allow Azerbaijan-based CSI professionals an opportunity to explore the activities of their colleagues and share practical, useful tools and techniques in building meaningful CSI programs.
