USAID/Bulgaria’s Community Fund and Social Enterprise program, implemented by Counterpart International in partnership with the Bulgarian Center for Not-for-profit Law, recently awarded a total of $85,000 in grants to seventeen Bulgarian municipalities.  The small grants encourage the local authorities to out-source the provision of social services to NGOs and businesses in an effort to boost the development of public/private partnerships in the social sector. The seventeen grantee municipalities demonstrated their strong commitment to the collaborative planning and service delivery process by posting $240,000 in matching funding.

Through this program, more than 3,000 disadvantaged people will receive access to important social services, such as day care center for children with disabilities, rehabilitation programs for the elderly, soup kitchens and public laundries for low-income families, vocational training facilities for youth with disabilities, and shelters for the homeless.
