A Closer Look At Cotton Seed Markets
In the chart below, notice that in 1990, the total value of cotton seed planted in the United States, China and India was roughly equivalent. The U.S. market has outgrown the other two in recent years.
Introducing estimated average seeding rates for
selected countries provides an idea of the market size in volume as well as
average seed costs per unit. The
wide variation in the value of cotton seed around the world suggests a mix of
severe market segmentation and imperfect area, cost and seeding rate estimates.
