Your Billing Responsibilities

As a Medicare provider, you play a critical role in securing health insurance information from your patients. This assures that payments will be made correctly the first time, minimizing costs and administrative efforts incurred by your staff.

The Coordination of Benefits (COB) Contractor’s responsibility is to consolidate the activities that support the collection, management, and reporting of all other health insurance coverage for Medicare beneficiaries. The COB Contractor’s database provides a complete picture of a beneficiary’s eligibility and of the availability of other health insurance that is primary to Medicare.

Your assistance in streamlining the data collection process is needed. Updated insurance profiles should be requested from the patient at each office visit. For Providers other than hospitals, we do not mandated that information be collected each office visit, we recommend it and it is prudent for them to do so.  A few minutes during each visit can later save you time and money.
