Corpus Christi, TX -- Preventive measures that reduce damage from the next inevitable disaster is called mitigation. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Division of Emergency Management (DEM), Texas Department of Public Safety are partnering to encourage homeowners, renters and business owners to consider some basic, proven mitigation in the aftermath of the recent flooding.

"It's critical that residents invest in mitigation aimed at preventing or minimizing damage from future flooding," said Federal Coordinating Officer Sandy Coachman.

The State of Texas is interested in educating residents on the importance of mitigation. "Everyone knows that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," said State Coordinating Officer Duke Mazurek.
