Corpus Christi, TX -- To better serve those affected by the severe weather and flooding that occurred Oct. 24 through Nov. 15, state and federal officials will open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Taft.

The DRC will be located at the Hidalgo Community Center, 102 Allende St. in Taft, Texas. The center will open on Saturday, Dec. 7 and remain open Mon. - Wed., Dec. 9-11. Hours will be from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. The DRC will not be open on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Qualified state and federal personnel staff the DRC to provide recovery information and written materials about various assistance programs available to homeowners, renters and business owners. Information is available on grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs, and serious disaster-related needs, as well as low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, disaster unemployment assistance and crisis counseling.

State Coordinating Officer Duke Mazurek and Federal Coordinating Officer Sandy Coachman urge those with questions to visit the center to talk face-to-face with a recovery specialist.

If you have not registered with FEMA, you are encouraged to register as soon as possible. To register for assistance, call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech or hearing impaired. The registration lines are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
