Corpus Christi, TX -- To better serve those affected by the tornadoes and severe weather that began on October 24, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state of Texas will open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Corpus Christi.

On Monday, November 11, a mobile DRC will open at the West Heights Baptist Church on 642 Scott Drive in Corpus Christi. Scott Drive is located off Van Cleve Street between Leopard St. and Baldwin Blvd.

The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in anticipation of opening a larger permanent site.

Qualified personnel staff the center to provide recovery information and written materials about various assistance programs available to individuals and business owners. Disaster programs include disaster housing assistance, grants for disaster-related needs, low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, disaster unemployment assistance and crisis counseling.

State Coordinating Officer Duke Mazurek and Federal Coordinating Officer Sandy Coachman urge those with questions to visit the center.

"This is a great opportunity for people to sit down with different agencies and get their recovery process questions answered," said Mazurek.

If you have not registered with FEMA, you are encouraged to begin the process as soon as possible. To start the application process, call 800-621 FEMA (3362) or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing or speech impaired.
