Rural/Frontier Women's Health Coordinating Centers: Bringing it all together to ensure better health care for women

Wisconsin Women's Health Foundation
Stevens Point, WI

The Wisconsin Women's Health Foundation (WWHF) was established in 1997 by Former First Lady Sue Ann Thompson after her recovery from breast cancer. The WWHF created a Rural Women's Health Office in 2000. The RFCC is being integrated with this office and will focus efforts on women who are Hmong, Hispanic, Native American, elderly, and farm workers. The RFCC is also focusing on women veterans who are returning from combat overseas. The WWHF is working closely with the University of Wisconsin National Center of Excellence in Women's Health and the Wisconsin Division of Public Health in targeting women in the rural counties of Brown, Forest and Wood.

Key WWHF focus areas include:

  • Breast and other cancers;
  • Cardiovascular disease;
  • Domestic violence;
  • Mental illness;
  • Osteoporosis;
  • Tobacco addiction; and
  • Wisconsin Well Women Program.
