GOV. RITTER JOINS XCEL ENERGY TO INTRODUCE THE "SMARTGRIDCITY EXPERIENCE"

Gov. Bill Ritter today joined Xcel Energy to introduce the SmartGridCity Experience, a hands-on, interactive mobile exhibit designed to educate the public about today's energy grid and the possibilities of a smart grid.

Xcel Energy announced earlier this year that it will make Boulder the first SmartGridCity in America.

"SmartGridCity is a prime example of how Colorado is using new technologies to build a New Energy Economy," Gov. Ritter said. "This has the potential to fundamentally change electric usage as we know it. It will modernize the way we make, deliver and use energy, and it will give consumers more information to make better choices about when and how they use their energy based on their own financial or environmental concerns."

"We are making great progress in Boulder," said Dick Kelley, Xcel Energy's chairman, president and CEO. "The technologies we're installing are working together, bringing us closer to making our vision of a fully integrated SmartGridCity a reality. Now, with the SmartGridCity Experience, customers outside of Boulder and will be able to see the technology we're installing and understand the potential for the grid of the future."

The SmartGridCity Experience mobile exhibit will be on display on the west side of the State Capitol today.

It will be open to the public during the Green Frontier Fest at the Denver Performing Arts Center, at the corner of Speer and Champa. Public hours for tours are: Sunday, Aug. 23, through Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
