National Campus Safety

Awareness Month

September 2008


Since 2005, Security on Campus, Inc. has partnered with universities and colleges across the country to designate the month of September as National Campus Safety Awareness month. This year a bill sponsored by Rep. Joe Sestak, H.Res.1288, supporting the goals and ideals of National Campus Safety Awareness Month, passed the House on July 31. Among the 50 Members who signed onto the bill were Victim's Rights Caucus Co-Chairmen, Rep. Jim Costa and Rep. Ted Poe. During the month of September, universities and colleges are encouraged to focus on campus safety topics such as sexual assault, high-risk drinking, and hazing.

Join the National Organization for Victim Assistance for five days of victim assistance training at their annual conference in Louisville, KY from September 28-October 2. This year’s theme is “Advocacy: Turning Survivors into Thrivers.” Keynote speakers to include Founder and Co-Chairman of the Victim’s Rights Caucus, Representative Ted Poe (TX-02); best selling author and nationally known speaker Donna VanLiere; ex-wife of DC sniper John Muhammad, Mildred Muhammad; victim advocate and humorist, Karen Vadino; and the Central Park Jogger, Trisha Meili.
