Region VI - Projects, Products, and Tools for Practice

  • Region VI Sunbelt Women/Girls Out Walking Program:

    A web-based virtual walking program encourages women and girls to increase their physical activity by walking for a twelve-week period of time. Pedometers and walking logbooks were provided to intergenerational participants. Information is available on request.
  • Region VI Women Inside and Outside Women's Health Curriculum and Peer Education Training Program:

    This curriculum and training program was developed to train peer educators in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice System. The program is currently being tested in a large county jail and a community setting. Information is available on request.
  • Region VI Tribal Young Women's Health Summits:

    These two events were held in Oklahoma and New Mexico and involved bringing two young women 14-16 years of age and a mentor from each tribe in Region VI (Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas). Information is available on request.
  • Region VI WHAT TOOL (Women's Health Community Assessment Tool):

    This comprehensive assessment tool was developed and tested by the Texas Women's University-Houston women's health department, to assist women's health leaders in the five state area to build a women's health infrastructure based on needs assessment information.
  • Region VI "Hosting a Women's Health Event Tool Kit":

    As part of developing awareness of women's health, the Region VI office has put together tips/ideas to help community based organizations, businesses, churches, or individual host a women's health event. The office has experience in setting a basic race/walk program, physical fitness expo, women's health expo, and "Pink Ribbon Sunday Breast Cancer Awareness program.   • Region VI "Women: Develop Your Body Core Strength":

    These exercises were developed for women, esp. older women, to help maintain their strength and flexibility. The pamphlet was developed through a partnership with the University of Texas-Galveston physical therapy education master's program. Information is available on request.
