First Responder Certification & Recertification
2008 Program Information
DHS, Emergency Medical Services & Trauma Systems Program adopted the Chapter 333, Division 265 Oregon Administrative Rules governing the training, education, certification and recertification of Emergency Medical Technicians and First Responders. A temporary rule has been adopted extending all existing first responder certificates to September 30, 2008.
The Emergency Medical Services & Trauma Systems Program will be mailing recertification packets to all First Responders or their Agencies at the beginning of August 2008

In addition to the EMT programs, Oregon also has a very active First Responder training program. In cooperation with approximately 160 agencies across Oregon, we provide the following services.
Certification
Oregon First Responder education is provided through the use of the following curriculum:
Emergency Medical Services: First Responder Training
U.S. Department of Transportation
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
August 1995
This course consists of forty-six hours of didactic, including lab work.

Recertification
First Responder certification has been extended to September 30, 2008. In order to certify a First Responder must complete 16 hours of continuing education in the following areas:

Recertification of First Responder’s is obtained through the State of Oregon, DHS, Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Systems Program.
