Continued . . . The valley was also important for the people living in the region. Approximately 180 inventoried archaeological sites have been found on the Refuge; these sites date from 12,000 B.C. to the earliest days of Euro-American settlement. The Refuge's Williamson Site is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
