Question taken at daily briefing of July 21, 2008

Reports on Comments by President Abbas to Families of Released Prisoners (Taken Question)

Question: Does the Department of State have any reaction to reports that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated the families of recently released prisoners, including the family of Samir Kuntar?

Answer: We are aware of the reports. The United States condemns the abhorrent crimes of Samir Kuntar, including the murder of an Israeli policeman as well as the killing of Danny Haran and his 4-year-old daughter in a raid on April 22, 1979 in Nahariya, Israel.
