Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Launching Civilian Response Corps of the United States of America

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will launch the interagency Civilian Response Corps at a ceremony on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at 1:30 p.m., in the East Auditorium at the Department of State.

The Civilian Response Corps is a partnership of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Departments of State, Agriculture, Commerce, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Justice, and Treasury. Senior officials from each of these agencies will attend the ceremony. In addition to Secretary Rice, remarks will be delivered by Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance and USAID Administrator Henrietta Fore, Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization Ambassador John Herbst, and by member of the Civilian Response Corps John Mongan.

This event will be open for press coverage.

Pre-set time for cameras: 12:30 p.m. from the 21st Street entrance
Final access time for all press: 1:15 p.m. from the 21st Street entrance

Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
