Remarks by
Charles S. Prouty
Executive Assistant
Director, Law Enforcement Services
Federal Bureau of
Investigation
at the
Dedication of the Forensic
Science Training Center
Budapest, Hungary
January 26, 2004
It's
a great day for the international law enforcement community as we dedicate this
forensic training facility. This is the
culmination of two years of planning by the FBI, the Hungarian National Police,
and the Hungarian and American governments.
And
it's going to be worth the effort! It
will be the physical embodiment of our commitment to the rule of law and the
pride each of our countries has in the integrity of its law enforcement
agencies and criminal justice system.
In
an interesting coincidence, this building housed the Hungarian Cavalry 100
years ago. Everyone knows the cavalry
wore the white hats and could always be counted on to show up to save those in
distress. Today, it's forensic
examiners who wear the white hats. And
like the cavalry, you can always count on them to show up and save those in
distress. This facility will ensure
that they have the ammunition to do that.
A
few extraordinary cases will be worked by those trained in this lab and many,
many ordinary ones, but each will contribute to our countries' basic principle
of equal justice for all. And most
importantly, it will be staffed by our finest public servants who are motivated
by a desire to serve.
I
know this facility will inspire all who work here and all who attend it. It will serve as a fine example of what
cooperation between our countries' law enforcement agencies can accomplish.
I
am extremely grateful for all those involved in making this dream a
reality. You have served your
communities well. Our deepest thanks go
to you.
