Solar-Geophysical Data Reports

50 Years of Space Weather Data

Solar-Geophysical Data is a monthly bulletin issued since 1955 in two parts that provides the scientific community with a variety of solar-terrestrial data. Solar- Geophysical Data is intended to keep researchers informed on a timely schedule of the major events on the sun and of their associated interplanetary, ionospheric, geomagnetic and cosmic ray effects. The report is made available through the cooperation of many observatories, laboratories and agencies whose data are summarized. Part I (Prompt Reports) contains data for 1 or 2 months before the month of publication, and some late data; Part II (Comprehensive Reports) contains data for 6 months prior to publication plus late and miscellaneous data.

Solar-Geophysical Data is currently available (2000-present) online in PDF format.

Complete PDF issues can be downloaded at SGD_PDFversion.

Individual data tables and files by month (PDF format) are also available.

Solar-Geophysical Data does not remain static. The Yohkoh soft x-ray images of the sun's disk were available while this satellite was operational. Each month both the positive and negative forms of the images were published. More recently, monthly plots of the ACE satellite Interplanetary Magnetic Field, Solar Wind and Solar Energetic Particles became available. The list of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) from the SOHO/LASCO satellite instrument which are reduced by Catholic University and NRL are also included.

For the past several years each part has typically contained about 100 pages each month. Solar- Geophysical Data presents the most commonly desired data in the solar-terrestrial physics disciplines. SGD is published under NGDC auspices and may be referenced in the open literature.

Back issues in booklet form are available for as long as stocks exist. They are priced on a per-copy basis, for either Part I or Part II. Back issues are also available on 35-mm microfilm for 1957-1972 and microfiche from 1973-2000. Issues 2000-present are available online.
