Visitor finds serenity at RSABG
While relaxing in your yard at the end of the summer, think about what your perfect garden would look like. Visualize mature shrubs and trees, flowering perennials, paths, sitting areas, and so on. Remember to consider transitional spaces from one section of your yard to another. Take in the views and make note of those that you would like to block or screen out.

Next, peruse garden magazines and books. Gardening with California Native Plants by Carol Bornstein, David Fross and Rancho’s Bart O’Brien, has loads of garden pictures displaying California native plants that are well-adapted to gardens. Jot down notes of plants that will bring your yard closer to your vision.

The ideal planting season in Southern California is late fall to winter. To take advantage of this, Rancho holds an annual plant sale the first weekend in November - this year it falls on the first and second of the month. We offer a remarkable variety of plants, primarily natives with a smaller selection of non-native plants adapted to our climate. In preparation for the sale, Rancho is offering a series of introductory gardening classes (soils, irrigation, design, plant selection and garden maintenance) during September and October (see Classes and Events to the left).

Planting season will be here before you know it.  Start planning now!
