Description

The American Hospital Association (AHA) was founded in 1898 to help members provide high-quality health care and to represent America's hospitals. The Association's mission emphasizes leadership in public policy development, advocacy and member services including statistical data and analytical reports on such topics as health care planning, hospital organization, hospital departments, health care financing, health manpower, patient/professional relations, Federal and State regulations, and other health care topics. Groups within the AHA include the American Society for Hospital Public Relations, the American Society for Hospitals Materials Management, the Hospital Information Management Systems Society, the American Society for Hospital Engineering, and 13 other affiliated societies. The AHA Resource Center contains a comprehensive collection of health care administration literature, including over 47,000 books, 1,000 Health Planning Information Center. The Resource Center offers factual information and referral services specific to the health delivery in response to interlibrary or individual requests. The AHA contributes to the Health Planning and Administration database (HEALTH file on ELHILL), which contains citations to literature about health care planning, organizing, financing, management, manpower, and related subjects. The database contains over 400,000 citations and is updated monthly. Selected Resource Center services are available for a fee. The AHA has over 5,600 institutional and 41,000 personal members.

The AHA publishes print materials and audiovisual products related to patient education, staff development, direct patient services, health care delivery, human resources, medical and nursing affairs, community relations, patient support services, and other aspects of hospital administration. Package programs on such areas as alcoholism, patient education, life habits, and risk management are available.
