LegislationLegislation is a key part of Senator Murray’s work for Washington State. It begins with understanding the needs in local communities. Senator Murray travels throughout the state meeting with citizens and local officials to hear the concerns and priorities of Washington’s residents. She also meets with constituents in her Washington, D.C. office. Senator Murray and her staff take this information and look for opportunities in the legislative process to meet Washington’s needs. For example, Senator Murray might work on the Appropriations Committee to increase funding for schools in Washington State. Or she might write and introduce a bill to address a particular challenge. The Budget is the major focus of Congress each year, and Senator Murray serves on the Senate Budget Committee. In February, the President submits his budget proposal to Congress.
