West-wide Snow Survey Training School

Tahoe City, California
January 7-12, 2007

The 2007 West-wide Snow Survey Training School was held January 7-12, 2007 in Tahoe City, California. Students from all over the country participated in the winter survival training and snow measurement classes over the course of the week.

Students were trained in winter survival techniques and built snow shelters to spent one night out in the snow. Everyone learned a great deal about how to survive the winter conditions in the unlikely event that they need to spend a night out in the snow.

The course also provides training in snow data collection techniques. Snow data is used to produce monthly streamflow volume forecasts at over 700 points across the west. This training is put on yearly by NRCS and is open to agency personnel and others that are cooperating with NRCS in snow survey operations.
