Partner Profile
The United States General Services Administration (GSA) is the Federal government's business manager with 64 billion in government wide financial responsibility. In FY2007 facilities in GSA's Northeast and Caribbean Region reduced energy consumption by over 8 percent compared to the amount of energy used in FY2003. GSA procures 94,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy, or 34 percent of its energy in New York and New Jersey from renewable energy. This is over 13 times more than the amount required by EPACT 2005. A disparate group of Federal agencies and nongovernmental organizations came together to purchase an additional 18,000 MWh of green power because they believed in the importance of buying green power: the United Nations SG Residence, the Social Security Administration, the Coast Guard, the Red Cross, the National Park Service, and the EPA. This purchase helps protect the environment, create jobs in the private sector, and comply with the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
