Partner Profile University of Tennessee's (UT's) green power commitment was born from a student-led initiative to create a new student fee dedicated to the purchase of green power. Working in partnership with students, the University in 2003 implemented a new Student Environmental Initiatives Facilities Fee of $5 per student, per semester. The fee pays for UT's annual green power purchase as well as for environmental efforts across the campus from recycling to energy conservation. The green power commitment has provided a platform for the University to communicate with both internal and external audiences about the importance of its environmental efforts as an organization. In addition, it provides an example of how the University is working both to educate and serve the state as a whole.
