Partner Profile
With more than 1,500 employees and 39 restaurants throughout Oregon and Washington, The Holland, Inc.'s Burgerville restaurant chain highlights fresh, locally grown ingredients to bring guests flavorful, quality food. The Holland's commitment to sustainable operating practices extends beyond the locally purchased food, cage-free eggs and company wide recycling program. The Holland purchases renewable energy certificates (RECs) from large-scale wind farms throughout the Pacific Northwest for its total electricity use in all 39 Burgerville locations and headquarters. By purchasing wind RECs, The Holland avoids the equivalent CO2 emissions of more than 1,500 passenger cars each year, or equally reduces the CO2 emissions associated with burning nearly 1 million gallons of gasoline annually. The Holland shares data about its regional wind-powered energy model with partners, colleagues, peers, employees and guests to encourage similar commitments. Burgerville restaurants display tabletop signs that inform guests about Holland's wind power purchases and the positive impact on the region, and The Holland has participated in community events to enroll other businesses and individuals in renewable energy programs. "At Burgerville, we believe that the best business strategy today is one that adopts practices good for the communities we serve," said Jack Graves, chief cultural officer at The Holland. "Our approach to sustainable practices is an invitation to others to consider how they can be mindful of the environment when considering the way they do business."
