Seattle University is a Jesuit Catholic university located in Seattle. The University has been engaged in numerous energy conservation programs since 1986. In August 2006, the University decided to re-invest some of the resulting savings into the purchase of green power. The University currently purchases wind power to supply more than 15 percent of the electricity used on campus. In addition to their green power leadership, Seattle has a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. A joint effort between seniors in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Services and Seattle City Light brought a solar power demonstration project to campus. The solar panels on the Student Center's roof and south wall and the tracking pole-mounted solar array produce enough electricity to power one energy-conserving home for a year.
